What Is a Realtor?

A real estate licensee has passed an exam; REALTORS® are real professionals.

“Selling a home is a full-time job. The average homeowner may sell three or four homes in his or her lifetime; REALTORS®, can sell hundreds over the course of a career. This experience is invaluable, and it’s part of the reason why home sellers who use a real estate professional can expect to sell their homes for 16 percent more, on average, than sellers who try to do it themselves.” (1)

REALTORS® are experts in helping protect your interest, whether you are buying or selling a home, even after the contract is signed. Of course, a REALTOR® can offer far more kinds of guidance and information during the process.

REALTORS® devote themselves to continuous study of the most recent trends in their fields to stay abreast of industry developments in their specialized areas and better address industry issues.

Only REALTORS®, who are members of the National Association of REALTORS®, follow a time-tested Code of Ethics, where other real estate licensees may not. They are expected to maintain a higher level of knowledge of the process of buying and selling real estate. To be a member of NAR and a REALTOR®, a real estate agent must abide by a set of professional principles and serve clients fairly.
